VIDEO POKER QUICK TIPS

This article serves as a mini-education offering strategies, rules and a brief outline of the game delivered in quick informational bites.

1) Learn how to read pay schedules to understand the difference between full-pay and short-pay VP versions.

2) Learn optimum strategy for each VP version, before you play.

3) Top 10 VP versions with highest payout percentages based on players’ preferences and availability.

1) 10/4 Loose Deuces=100.97%.
2) 9/5 Deuces Wild = 100.76%.
3) 7/5 Jokers Wild = 100.64%. 5 kind pays 1000. Quad pays 100. Kings + is the min. payout.
4) 9/6 Double Double Jackpot Poker, also known as Aces & Faces=100.35%.
5) 10/7 Double Bonus, 2 pair pays 1 = 100.17%.
6) Pick ‘Em Poker=99.95%.
7) 11/7 Triple Bonus Poker. Kings+=min. payout=99.94%.
8) 9/6 Jacks+, 2 pair pays 2= 99.54%.
9) 8/5 Jacks+ Bonus: 2 pair pays 2 = 99.17%.
10) 9/6 Double Double Bonus = 98.98%.

4) The first two numbers reflect the payouts for a full house and flush as per one coin payout.
A 10/7 Bonus VP version #5, would pay 10 coins for a full house and 7 coins for a flush for a one coin bet.
Exception: Deuces Wild versions--#1 and #2, reflect the payouts for a straight flush and 4 of a kind as per one coin payout.
These percentages are maintained with maximum coins, full-pay schedules and perfect strategy in play.

Strategy for 3 of the most popular VP versions:

5) JACKS OR BETTER (JACKS+)
Maximum coin pays winning hands multiplied by a factor of 5, except Royal Flush (4000) which is an incentive to always play maximum coins each hand.
20% of hands dealt will be paying hands.
3% of the time, you will toss all five cards.
6/5 VP payout=72% payout. Big difference between full-pay and this short-pay schedule.
Keep a five card winning hand unless 1-card draw can make a Straight or Royal Flush.
Ace is not the most important card, KQJ are significant also, as they return your bet.
Don’t keep a kicker with a high pair.

6) DEUCES WILD
Strategy includes the prize for a secondary jackpot of 4 Deuces.
Approximately every 5000 hands=4 Deuces.
Don’t hold two pair as minimum payout is 3 of a kind. One pair only held.
Almost 20% of the time, you will throw away all five cards.
Never hold one card only, except a Deuce.
Never hold two cards unless pair or 2-card royal draw, but not AK.
Never hold just one other card with one, two or three Deuces.
If there are no Deuces: draw to an inside Royal or Straight Flush because of the wild card possibility.
Jack to 7 offers the best straight potential.
Play Double or Loose Deuces versions where secondary jackpot of 4 Deuces pays double. Strategy change: hold three Deuces alone.
Deuces Wild is a 'roller coaster ride' of a game. Bankroll fluctuations are expected.

7) JOKERS WILD
Fifty-three card deck to include one Joker.
Go for a Straight Flush when possible for the higher return with a wild card.
Break up 3 of a kind for any 4-card Straight Flush.
Hold a lower pair instead of trying for an inside Straight.
Although this is a wild card game, the pay for Straights has been reduced from 4 to 3.

Until we meet again to continue your VP education, may all your VP choices turn out to be ‘royalty’.
